Ben Ruddell is currently a Professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) at Northern Arizona University, the President of Ruddell Environmental consulting, Chief Science Officer for Criticality Sciences Inc., and the Director of the FEWSION project. During AY2020-2022 he was the Director of SICCS. His PhD is in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona (Water Resources practice area). His professional experience is in informatics, data science, systems engineering, and generally in the leadership of the interdisciplinary university enterprise. His professional goals are the advancement of the science and management of complex systems, and excellence in education in a university setting. Why? Because our country and world need better solutions to handle chaos and complex problems, and we need better scientists and engineers who know how to best serve their communities with these solutions.

Kat Fowler (she/they) is an interdisciplinary social-ecological systems scientist focused on how infrastructure and trade redistribute materials and environmental impacts across space. She is completing the last year of her PhD in Informatics & Computing with the CSIL team and collaborates with social and physical scientists across the Intermountain West to holistically understand and address socio-environmental challenges.

Modeling supply chains by combining administrative and last mile data, designing innovative graph and document database architectures, and writing performant queries to serve cloud-based UI interfaces. Director of undergraduate research, guiding projects on remote sensing, AI, and automated data pipelines.

Eric Sjöstedt is an interdisciplinary computational hydrologist researching how ecological theory and methods can be adapted to model trade networks alongside food-energy-water nexus and physical hydrology modeling. He is completing his final year of his Ph.D. in Informatics & Computing with the CSIL team at NAU.

Kendall Smith is a senior geospatial data scientist, with a background in artificial intelligence focused on urban analytics, retail logistics, risk management and international trade policy. He is applying novel approaches in deep learning and network optimization to model global supply chains top-down combining remote sensing, administrative demographic estimates and bilateral trade statistics.
